Threadwork’s beginnings lay in the Velona Group of Companies, which was inaugurated by Late Mr. Ruskin Fernando, the grandfather of the present CEO and chairman of Threadworks (Pvt) Ltd. Velona began as a sole trader business in 1940. The company began with just one knitting machine in the back yard of Mr. Ruskin Fernando’s house, situated in Moratuwa, 18 km south of Colombo.
Despite it’s humble beginnings, within a space of 20 years Velona expanded rapidly, becoming what is prevalently known today as the Velona Group of Companies. This conglomerate had under its wings an assortment of products ranging from different types of knits and weaves to fizzy drinks and life style products. The companies under its stead included Lanka Weaving Mills, Velona Printers, Velona Silks and many more whose memory is held in high regard up to this day. In 1956 Velona began a successful journey in exports by surpassing international standards of quality and design. We are regularly Selling: clothing, diapers, underwear, nappies.
